I invite you to visit our website frequently. No other site will allow you to see the world from this unique perspective. There are many reasons you will want to make your visit a regular practice:

  • NYSAFLT boasts a variety of scholarships available to you and to your students;

  • NYSAFLT’s many committees have the pulse on, and reflect the varied needs of our profession;

  • NYSAFLT’s regional meetings are open forums of local issues and interests;

  • NYSAFLT hosts state-wide professional meetings and conferences that include the Spring Colloquium, the Summer Institute, and the Annual Meeting;

  • NYSAFLT’s staff development workshops offer expert classroom practices that have met with success and are based on the latest research in your area of studies;

  • NYSAFLT’s professional publications include the Language Association Journal, and the Newsletter;

  • NYSAFLT’s Executive Board, Board of Directors, Web Master, and Committee Chairs are dedicated professionals who volunteer their time to promote the study of languages and cultures at all levels of acquisition, from FLES to Post-Secondary;

  • NYSAFLT’ Listserv, Job Placement, and other very useful links are there for your perusal;

  • NYSAFLT is your professional link to our State Education Department website and its latest developments;

This list represents some, not all, the resources of our organization. It suffices to visit our website to discover much more.

Our greatest resource, however, are the 2000 plus points of light that compose our active membership. I have had the honor and pleasure of knowing and working with some of the most magnanimous friends and professional colleagues. I salute you, therefore, for your sense of collegiality; for the many hours you spend and distances you travel to and from local, regional and statewide conferences; for all those times that a colleague has asked for, and you gladly volunteered a helping hand; for the outstanding workshops you have presented for the benefit of our members; for the many Friday evenings and weekends you set aside in order to attend and participate in workshops designed to refine your classroom practices; for the time you spend in front of a publisher’s booth, perusing the latest editions of a reader or a textbook, a CD or DVD that may help your students reach a higher level of language acquisition. For these, and many more attributes, I express to you my sincere gratitude.

As President of NYSAFLT it is a privilege for me to work with you towards the common goal that has attracted us to our profession: a better and thorough understanding of the world around us, and the desire to provide a brighter future for our students, and all those who have touched and enriched our lives.
