Strategic Plan for NYSAFLT 2009-2013
Adopted: June 6, 2008

Vision:
NYSAFLT will work toward offering educators more efficient and effective tools to enhance their professional practices.

Public Advocacy: Continue to communicate NYSAFLT's needs and strengths with the public.

  • Educate our K-16 educational community about current LOTE trends and best practices to enhance the development of second language acquisition.
  • Utilize all award winners as ambassadors of our organization around New York State and throughout the country.
  • Garner consistent legislative support on the local, state and national level.
  • Make NYSAFLT materials available to board of education members or district superintendents.

Technology: Continue to develop and implement state-of-the-art technological strategies.

  • Offer webinars, audio and/or video podcasting for NYSAFLT members.
  • Produce a web based Regents Review Live type show.
  • Plan and budget for technology upgrades as recommended and/or needed.
  • Provide better interactivity with the membership database and the website.
  • Continue to enhance the professional look for all NYSAFLT publications (the Newsletter, the Annual Conference Publication on CD, etc.)
  • Offer approved LOTE lesson plans and activities on the website.

Networking: Continue to collaborate with professionals and organizations of all languages.

  • Support the implementation of critical languages.
  • Use national professional organizations as models to explore important national trends and topics.
  • Produce a publication aimed specifically at Post Secondary educators.
  • Collaborate with neighboring professional associations on projects or conference (e.g., Ontario Language Teachers Association).
  • Develop and implement a Mentor Program.
  • Fully implement a Speakers Bureau.
