Strategic Plan for NYSAFLT 2009-2013
Adopted: June 6, 2008
Vision:
NYSAFLT will work toward offering educators more
efficient and effective tools to enhance their professional
practices.
Public Advocacy: Continue to
communicate NYSAFLT's needs and strengths with the public.
- Educate our K-16 educational community about current
LOTE trends and best practices to enhance the development of
second language acquisition.
- Utilize all award winners as ambassadors of our
organization around New York State and throughout the
country.
- Garner consistent legislative support on the local,
state and national level.
- Make NYSAFLT materials available to board of education
members or district superintendents.
Technology: Continue to develop and
implement state-of-the-art technological strategies.
- Offer webinars, audio and/or video podcasting for
NYSAFLT members.
- Produce a web based Regents Review Live type show.
- Plan and budget for technology upgrades as recommended
and/or needed.
- Provide better interactivity with the membership
database and the website.
- Continue to enhance the professional look for all
NYSAFLT publications (the Newsletter, the Annual Conference
Publication on CD, etc.)
- Offer approved LOTE lesson plans and activities on the
website.
Networking: Continue to
collaborate with professionals and organizations of all
languages.
- Support the implementation of critical languages.
- Use national professional organizations as models to
explore important national trends and topics.
- Produce a publication aimed specifically at Post
Secondary educators.
- Collaborate with neighboring professional associations
on projects or conference (e.g., Ontario Language Teachers
Association).
- Develop and implement a Mentor Program.
- Fully implement a Speakers Bureau.
