NYSAFLT announces the availability of funds to support your efforts to develop an idea to enhance your classroom instruction. Any Rochester Region NYSAFLT member may apply except NYSAFLT Rochester Regional Committee Members.

The “Fund an Idea” Grant provides funds to NYSAFLT members of the Rochester Region to support school projects and teacher efforts that are related to the improvement and/or expansion of the instructional or extra-curricular program of a class, school or school district. The amount of the grant is $125.00.

In February, the selection committee will review and recommend a grant recipient from the applications received by the January 31 deadline. All applicants will receive a letter of receipt from the selection committee chairperson following receipt of application. The award will be presented at the NYSAFLT Rochester Regional Conference in March. The winner should be present to accept the award.

Vito Marcello, for whom the award is named, always took great professional satisfaction in bringing together teachers from the Rochester area to learn and to share with each other. For decades he was a member of the Rochester Regional Conference Planning Committee. He served as treasurer and promoted a quality program of enrichment and information for the LOTE teachers of western New York. As a teacher of French and Italian at McQuaid Jesuit High School, he was engaging, personable, and eager to help his students find joy in studying languages.

  • Grant funds may not be used as a stipend for release time to be spent on the proposed project, curriculum development, teacher travel/study abroad, projects of a personal nature, dissertations or independent research.
