Keynote Address by:
Sharon Feiman-Nemser, Ed.D.
Professor of Teacher Education at
Brandeis Univeristy

Sharon Feiman-Nemser, Mandel Professor of Jewish Education at Brandeis University, is the Director of the Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education. Before coming to Brandeis in 2001, she served on the faculties of the University of Chicago and Michigan State University where she directed innovative teacher education programs and did research on teaching and learning to teach. She has written extensively on mentoring, new teacher induction, the role of experience in learning to teach, the curriculum and pedagogy of teacher education. Her most recent book, Transforming Teacher Education: Reflections from the Field, co-authored with former Michigan State colleagues, was published in January 2007 by Harvard Education Press.

The NYSAFLT Colloquium is a forum in which LOTE colleagues share perspectives, exchange ideas, and develop responses to issues of importance to the LOTE education community. At the 2008 Colloquium,
participants will focus on the importance of professional support and development throughout the careers of LOTE teachers.

Keynote speaker, Dr. Sharon Feiman-Nemser, along with panelists and workshop presenters, will initiate the discussion and share their experience in the area of professional development. The keynote speaker and the panelists will address the needs of early career teachers, and how we as colleagues can support them throughout their early years. The group discussions, however, will focus on the continuum of professional development – what teachers need at various stages of their careers and how those needs can be met.

Because continued professional growth is important for the success of all teachers, please join us on April 25th and 26th for the 2008 NYSAFLT Colloquium. We value your input!
