New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers Inc.
The New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers Inc. is
seeking to fill the newly-created part-time position of Assistant
Director. Starting date is January 1, 2009. (See complete job
description below.) Hours are flexible. Starting salary is $5,000.
Location is not a factor. Preference will be given to NYSAFLT members.

Job Description, Assistant Director
NYSAFLT Constitution and By-Laws
Duties of Assistant Director
Works under a three-year renewable service contract, under the
supervision of the President of NYSAFLT and with a salary approved by
the Board of Directors. The Assistant Director shall remain
knowledgeable about the structure and operation of NYSAFLT. The
Assistant Director shall work in conjunction with the Executive
Committee, keeping the Executive Committee and Board of Directors
informed of ongoing activities.
- Attends all Board of Directors meetings, the Annual Meeting and
other events as requested. Carries out tasks as requested at any of
these meetings.
- Assists the Executive Committee and Board of Directors as
requested.
- Oversees all Standing Committees
- Maintains regular contact with Committee Chairpersons.
- Serves as liaison between the Committee Chairpersons and the
Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
- Identifies and reports to the Board and Executive Committee
the needs of the Committees to ensure effective performance.
- May recommend changes to the Committee Handbook for Board
approval.
- Makes approved changes to the Committee Handbook and
disseminates the updates to the Executive Committee, Board of
Directors, and Committee Chairpersons.
- Coordinates Committee reports to be presented to the Board
of Directors.
- Oversees the Awards, Scholarships and Grants process
- Acquires and coordinates distribution of necessary
plaques, gifts, certificates, checks, etc.
- Serves as the general contact person for all awards,
scholarships, and grants.
- Supports the publication process for the Journal,
Newsletter, and Annual Meeting Publication; Oversees the
Foreign Language Week Mailing.
- Participates in the proofreading process for all
NYSAFLT publications.
- Collaborates with the Executive Director, the
editors, printers, the Webmaster, and others as
necessary to develop and assure quality publications.
- Coordinates Foreign Language Week activities with
the appropriate committee chairpersons (i.e. Governor’s
proclamation from the Public Relations Committee,
suggested activities from the Curricular Enhancement
Committee, Poster Contest winners’ information from the
Poster Contest Committee).
- Promotes the goals of NYSAFLT.
- Maintains confidentiality in all of NYSAFLT’s
operations.
The Assistant Director is responsible to the
President of NYSAFLT as the representative of the Board
of Directors and is a collaborator with the Executive
Director. This is a three-year renewable contract with a
paid salary under the supervision of the President, with
approval of the Board of Directors. The Assistant
Director will receive an annual performance review by
the President after input from the Board of Directors
and the Executive Committee. If the review represents
any significant concerns, the Board would be made aware
of them, at the discretion of the President.
